Setting up the session
Pick a low-distraction space, a hungry dog, and high-value food. Keep sessions short — two minutes is plenty when you are starting out.
The reward loop
Wait. Say nothing. The moment the dog offers you eye contact, mark it and pay. Then reset and wait again. You are paying the dog for choosing you over the environment.
Common mistakes
- Talking too much — let the silence do the work.
- Sessions that run too long and drain drive.
- Rewarding late, so the dog can't tell what earned the pay.
